12th November lesson 1

Responce to "the price" by Lena Kitsopoulou
This play I found dealt with many political subject matters but the main one that stood out most for me was the idea of money and that could we as humans survive without it as in this day and age nothing Is for free, initially we can tell this through its explicit set out and referral to buying a baby and how the finer things in life are more important than a child. I like this play due to its many levels of meanings and presentational methods all following the rules of Brecht right from the start it is clear the couple have money issues and this then brings forward the question of why? And that being why do we live in a society where money is always our priority? And why now do the things we get for free still cost us money? Thus making me as an audience member engage with the text. A point that I feel later on when we as a group perform this piece will be the cost of living, that being how much on average does it cost to raise a child in the uk and general food and living costs. After discussing the script with the class I feel that this script is very hard hitting and "in your face" creating a strong thoughtful atmosphere that draws the audience in which again is expanding my love for Brecht theatre even more.
